Canadian Citizenship
Before there was a Canada, the people who lived here had a connection to this place through the land, something that continues today.
Most Canadian citizens were born here, but many came to Canada and chose to become citizens. When they do, the ceremony is exciting and emotional. Even the judges who oversee the process and welcome new Canadians still get swept up in it.
This issue also explores one boy’s experience of being a Canadian citizen in France in the 1950s, and times when people in Canada had their rights ignored or even trampled, despite being citizens.
