Although Canada’s relationship with the United States has been uneasy lately, it goes back before there was a Canada, or even a United States. What was known as British North America became two countries after the American Revolution. There were lots of highs, lows and ordinary days in the 225 years that followed. Deciding on where to put the Canada-U.S. border changed many Indigenous people’s ways of life. It even came close to causing a very unusual war. Sometimes families even ended up on different sides of the border. Our two countries have not gone to war for more than 200 years. Discover the stories of Loyalists, Fenians, 54-40, a very naughty pig and lots more in the April Kayak.
