Canada's History Seeks Program Coordinator (Parental Leave Replacement – 18 Months)

TERM: Full-time; 18 month term

START DATE: March 2, 2026

Canada’s History Society is seeking a highly organized and collaborative Program Coordinator to join our team on an 18-month parental leave replacement. Reporting to the Director of Programs, this role supports the planning, delivery, and reporting for educational programs and resources, awards, and in-person and virtual events.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, comfortable managing multiple overlapping projects, and enjoys collaboration, outreach, and working with diverse stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the promotion, nominations, applications, and review process for the Governor General’s History Awards for Excellence in Teaching, including recording podcast interviews with award finalists
  • Support the online National Heritage Fair Showcase, including:
    • Communicating with students, parents, and teachers
    • Coordinating student work and permission forms
    • Posting content online using a content management system
  • Commission and/or write educational materials to accompany Kayak: Canada’s History Magazine for Kids, Canada’s History magazine, and other special projects as needed
  • Assist with shortlisting for the Governor General’s History Awards, the John Bragg Award for Atlantic Canada, and National Heritage Fair Showcase entries
  • Assist with communications, promotions, and registrations for online professional development events and resources
  • Support in-person events celebrating the Governor General’s History Awards, including:
    • Acting as a primary contact for award recipients
    • Reviewing and proofing print and digital materials (award citations, programs, videos, media releases)
    • Helping to develop and organizing materials for the Canada’s History Forum (speaking notes and scripts, slideshows, programs)
  • Support post-program surveys, reporting, and project proposals
  • Travel occasionally for events and conferences, as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An undergraduate degree in history, education, or related field
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in program coordination, communications, education, or related not-for-profit work
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English is required; fluency in French is considered an asset
  • Excellent relationship-building skills, with experience in outreach and community engagement
  • Experience with digital tools such as Basecamp, Mailchimp, SurveyMonkey, Microsoft 365, Zoom, and content management systems
  • Passionate about Canada and the diversity of its people and histories

COMPENSATION: An annual salary of $46,000 - $55,000, depending on experience and qualifications, and a full benefits package, consisting of medical, vision, dental and extended health benefits and paid vacation.
