Alexander Graham Bell - The inventor of the telephone

My research project is about Alexander Graham Bell and his amazing invention, the telephone. This wonderful device is able to connect people together over a great distance.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I learned that multiple people came after Bell patented his invention claiming that they had invented the telephone before Bell did. I also learned that Bell had potentially stolen the liquid transmitter idea that makes the telephone work from Elisha Gray, who had submitted his patent only hours after Bell.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned that organization is key to success and that I need to check where I am getting my information from as some sources are credible and others are not. From the project itself, I also learned that everything is possible you just need to believe in yourself.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

If Bell had all the technology that we have today, he probably wouldn't want to be outside sitting by the Brantford river. Which was one of the ways that Bell was inspired to invent the telephone. Also, we have better education and more resources today, than they had when Bell was alive.
