The Canadian Walkie-Talkie

My project is about the invention of the Canadian Walkie-Talkie and its impact on the world of communication. Furthermore, I explore how this Canadian invention is used to-date within our communities.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

Some of the most interesting things I learned about my topic included the sheer weight of the original walkie-talkie which was a shocking 17.3kg compared to the 2.3kg of today’s ones. Moreover, I was intrigued by how so many people depend on the walkie-talkie for their personal safety, efficiency at work, and to help others.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Though the walkie-talkie was invented a very long time ago, it has paved the way for the creation of numerous communication devices that are used around the world today. Whether we notice it or not, walkie-talkies are essential in numerous fields and without them, our day-to-day lives would not run as smoothly and efficiently.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I would say that we are very fortunate to live in a world that has the ability to be interconnected with each other. This provides a sense of security and comfort that was not available during the time when walkie-talkies or other communication devices were not easily found.
