Bomb Girls: If you can walk, creep or crawl, SIGN HERE!
This project outlines the difficult and brave time endured and dutifully supported by the brave Canadian girls known as "Bomb Girls." It’s an effort to pay tribute as well as to bring in limelight the phenomenal strength of women in World War II era which helped achieving victory for Canada and the humankind. Without them, we will be speaking German by now. It gives us sense of responsibility as a Canadian. Canada First!
What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?
The most interesting thing, I learned was about the recreational programs offered by GECO, with the help of Canadian government. Due to that, employment attrition rate ratio was low. Working conditions were good. The purpose was to keep the spirit up, boost the morale, and let everyone have a bit of fun despite handling the dangerous task.
What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?
The important lesson I learned during the project was that if we are together as a nation, we can overcome any given challenge. I found Bomb Girls playing a phenomenal role in Canadian history by diving deep into the unprecedented challenges, excitement, and empowerment. It’s important for people to know about their determination and fierceness and to know "why we enjoy the freedom we have in Canada today. Without them we'd be speaking German by now".
How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?
Our life is totally opposite to life of Bomb Girls. We as girls enjoy more freedom, opportunities, and equality in social and professional life. Today, girls can join any field. They can even freelance if they want. Internet has played a big role in both empowering as well as globalizing women's approach. Women of that era did not have many opportunities, and this was one of the first opportunities to prove their strengths and they did a phenomenal job despite all the odds. They had to learn a lot to as there wasn't much precedence. Today's women has lot of feminine history of success and acceptance in the world.
