Why is James Naismith such an important Canadian?
James Naismith invented basketball and it is now played by over 300 million people worldwide. I think this would make James Naismith very happy!
What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?
Many people wanted to name basketball Naismith ball, but James Naismith didn’t care about the fame. He only wanted people to love the game. He said “I am sure no man can derive more pleasure from money or power than I do from seeing a pair of basketball goals in some out of the way place”.
What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?
I learned that you should never give up on something you want to make. If you have a passion for something and you work hard at it, you can achieve greatness!
How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?
My life is similar to James Naismith because I am active and love sports, especially basketball. I would love to play in the NBA!
