Moose Jaw Regional Heritage Fair

From a Sawmill to the Skies

My project is about my great-grandpa George Albert Smith. I learned about his early life, how he became a pilot, and why he was important to aviation in Saskatchewan.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned was that my great-grandpa didn't get a full education and still managed to become a successful pilot and business person.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned that if you really want something, you might have to work hard for it.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I have a lot more privileges than Great-grandpa. He didn't even start school until he was 9, and then had to quit when he was 14.

Wow, your great-grandpa certainly was a hard worker, and he accomplished so much. You did a great job telling me about him, Carsten. I enjoyed your presentation. Thank you very much.
