The Great Depression

The project is focused around The Great Depression and it’s impact on Saskatchewan. Within this, I focus on how this tragedy started, how The Great Depression caused unemployment and what unemployment caused, it’s impact on immigration, and the impact on the economy.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting fact I learnt (about the Great Depression) is the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl was caused by many factors: grasshopper plagues, dust on the prairie and more. One impact of the Dust Bowl was the Dust Cloud. The Dust Cloud was essentially dust that was blown across fields, causing what looked like a hurricane.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

History can impact the future. The Great Depression has caused a lasting impact in many ways. For example, lessons will have been taught to generations about surviving poverty (The Great Depression caused widespread poverty).

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

During the Great Depression, many Canadians lost their homes and jobs because of the economy’s crash. Nowadays, even when we have an economic crash, there is more help available from the government.
