Oscar Peterson

My project is about Oscar Peterson and how he inspired people through music. And how the world was changed by people who were inspired by his music.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

My choir team, the Vancouver Bach Children's Choir sang his song, "Hymn To Freedom" 3 years ago. At that time I didn't know Oscar Peterson actually, I realized he was him with preparing this project. However, the song was one of my favourite songs since then.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

The most important thing I learned is how Oscar Peterson changed the world through music. He moved the hearts of people no matter if he/she was black/white. No matter if he/she was rich/poor. And no matter if he/she was in trouble/not.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I can enjoy my life. I don't need to think what my skin colour is when I live. Even 50 years ago, However, equality and freedom were quite limited by skin colour. But Oscar Peterson overcame it. And he made the world much better.
