Immigration and Pier 21

My project is all about Pier 21 and my family's immigration to Canada from Switzerland. If it weren't for the sacrifices they made I wouldn't be here today.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

That Pier 21 one is a big part of my heritage as well as many other Canadians. Pier 21 was the gateway to Canada for over 1 million people since 1921.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

My grandparents had to work very hard to come to Canada, which shows me that no matter the circumstances if you work hard enough you can do anything.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

In the 1950's things were much different. Switzerland was a very war torn country and it was going to take a long time to build up the country again. That was the reason my family immigrated. I am very lucky to live in such a beautiful place called Canada.
