Trapping

My project is about trapping on our Selkirk First Nation land. My film is describing what animal traps there are and how to set them. A classmate of mine acted in my film as Alex VanBibber who was an elder and traditional trapper.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I have learned from my topic is that trapping and hunting are a HUGE part of our First Nations Culture.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that trapping is a very important tradition in our First Nations culture and that the generations need to be taught to carry on our traditions.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

My life today is much different compared to back in the day. As in, if I want to have something to eat, I only have to open the refrigerator or run to the grocery store. But back in the day, if you wanted food you had to either go hunting or trapping for your dinner.
