Mi'kmaq Dancing

My project is on Mi’kmaq dancing. I want people to know how we dance, what we look like and what we wear.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

A traditional jingle dress has 365 jingles on it. One sewn on for each day of the year.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

We do not just dance for ourselves, we dance in honour of all others that can not dance. A jingle dress dancer dances for healing.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

It is easier to make regalia to dance now with because items used to make regalia are processed in bulk like beads, pelts, fabrics and leathers. We do not need to go find what we want to use naturally as much any more.
