Gordie Howe

My presentation will look at the grass root and formative years of an emerging Gordie Howe. I will also delve into his rise to hockey stardom and the various adversities he faced in life. In addition, I will present endearing and everlasting Mr. Hockey that left a large footprint on Canada’s cultural history.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The more I learned about the person Gordie Howe the more I was amazed that despite his international fame and iconic status, he always remained a very humble and "reluctant" hero. Unlike many superstars of today he did not try to make himself more important than those around him or the game of hockey. His unwavering commitment and personality made him a true role model to generations of young Canadians and left a large footprint in the history of Canadian culture.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I would like to share with Canadians, especially young Canadians, that it is important to have goals and to pursue your dreams. I would remind all Canadians that your personal commitment can improve yourself and the lives of many others. I believe it's important for all Canadians to believe that individuals can make a difference and improve and shape our culture.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I believe that my life is much richer with diverse opportunities to explore and improve myself. I have so many more educational and extracurricular options to pursue than children would have in the era of a young Mr. Howe. I believe that families are much more supportive of children's activities and development today.
