The Artist Leo Mol

The life and art of Leo Mol. And how he was significant to Canadian and Winnipeg history.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I have learned that you can travel thousands of miles and never give up on your dreams. Leo overcame insurmountable odds traveling through war torn Eastern Europe to end up living in Winnipeg. He always believed in his art.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

The most ineresting thing that I learned about my topic is that Leo Mol's real name is Leonid Molodozhanyn from the Ukraine. I am also part Ukrainian. It was wonderful researching Leo Mol to learn more of my Ukrainian history in Winnipeg.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Leo Mol's travels to Canada are like those who are still immigrating and trying to make a life here in our wonderful country. I am lucky to be born here in Canada. A country free from war, where we have freedom of speech and women have just as many rights as men.
