Kingston Penitentiary

My project is about what went on inside the limestone walls of the Kingston Penitentiary in the 178 years it was an operating as one of Canada's most brutal prisons.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I think the most interesting thing I learned was probably about escapes an infamous prisoners. The complicated plans they created just leave the rough living conditions on the Kingston Pen.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I wanted to share information on the KP because I think it's important that Canadians know that it held some of Canada's worst prisoners. It helped keep our country safe for over 150 years. It is important to see the stories from all the different perspective, everyone has a different side.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

There are so many differences between what I can do and what maximum security prisoners can do. I can choose what I eat, have much more privacy and can do things like walk to school by myself without a guard hovering over me.
