Magic Manitoba

Explaining the importance of Philip’s Magical Paradise as a representation of the strong magician presence historically in Manitoba. Highlighting the history in and around the museum.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

That most Manitoban magicians that were famous died of cancer. How Philip's friend that he learned with continued to do escape magic even when he had a near fatal magic related accident. I found it very interesting that RCMP officers were willing to lock up two kids practicing escape.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I think Philip's perseverance was inspiring for other Canadians because he never gave up no matter what happened with his magic or his health. I don't think people realize what a strong presence Canada has in the international magicians community.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

It's not as easy to practise some forms of magic and escape because there are more regulations. It is easier to be in contact with other magicians because of the work of Len Vintus, Manitoba magician and founder of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
