The Toronto Star

My project is on the Toronto star. It includes aspects of it's history, founder, and significance.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting things I learned about the Star involve the changes throughout the years. When the newspaper was first founded, it would cost as little as 2 cents. In addition, I learned that the newspaper wasn't always called 'the Toronto Star,' instead it was named 'the Evening Star.'

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

One of the most important lessons I have learned is to stand up for I believe in. Atkinson had very strong opinions and he voiced these topics into his writing. This can be seen when he opposed the Nazi regime. Although it resulted in the Toronto Star getting banned from Germany, Atkinson got his voice out there and doing so made an impact.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

My life today is much different than Joseph E Atkinson (influential editor.) He went through many struggles during his childhood as he lived in poverty and was an orphan. Atkinson's life was far less fortunate than my own.
