History of Women's Roles in Canada

We have explored the many persevering and extraordinary women who have taken on some of the greatest careers in the history of Canada. We have learnt their troubles, and acknowledged the great lengths they went to, in order to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I learned about the many struggles that women did, and on occasion, still, have to go through to be accepted in the workforce. I also learned about some of the seemingly invisible struggles that women STILL go through, in the workforce, such as the gender wage gap. The struggles that women have faced in the past are incomparable to those that men did.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Acceptance. These women had to work extremely hard to achieve their goals. Acceptance was hard to get in that time and place, so these women worked double, even triple of what all the other men had to. They excelled in order to be accepted, and they accepted others too.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

My life is quite different to what it would have been 150 years ago, or even 50 years ago. I wouldn't have been allowed to have the dreams and aspirations for my future career that I have now. Although I will still have to face troubles, they are incomparable to those of 50, 150 years ago.
