The Battle of Vimy Ridge
My presentation, The Battle of Vimy Ridge, is about Canada's most celebrated military victory, and is an iconic event representing our nation's birth.
What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?
The amount of preparation that went into the attack, the aerial photography, the replica of the battle field and the time spent educating the soldiers as well as the strategy of the creeping barrage that the Canadians perfected.
What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?
Vimy was a defining moment in our countries growth. This event showed preparation, bravery and sacrifice required to be recognized as an independent country.
How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?
I would say that back then we were a country fighting for honour and a place in the world and we achieved that goal. Today Canada is about diversity and being a peaceful country.
