Victoria Park

My project is on Victoria Park in Truro NS. Victoria Park is over one hundred twenty-five years old and has lots of interesting history. The natural features of the park are great for hiking and biking. There are also more modern features like the pool, playground, tennis courts and baseball field that I really enjoy.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned about Victoria Park is the amazing history of a lot of the park's features. For example, one of Nova Scotia's Lieutenant Governors was Victoria Park's first board chair. Also the waterfalls are named after Joseph Howe.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned that Victoria Park is not just a park. It has a lot of interesting history I didn't know about. I also discovered that it takes a whole community to start a park and keep it running for more than a century.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

My life in the park is similar to those 125 years ago, because I love to run and hike in the park. And I also love all the natural features of the park. But my life and use of the park is different because of all the modern features. I love to swim in the pool in the summer. I also use the baseball field and the awesome playground.
