Indigenous People in WWII

Indigenous people made a huge contribution to the Canadian war effort in WWII.  My video shows the challenges Indigenous People faced during the war and gives examples of the brave indigenous people and their sacrifices.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I learned about the contributions that the indigenous people and the challenges they had to face. The most interesting person I researched was Tommy Prince. I found him most interesting because he survived both world wars.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

War comes at a large cost to everyone involved—the warriors and their families. Some paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives; others came home but were never the same again. It is important that we remember the sacrifices that all involved in WWII made for our country and the world. For me it important that I remember all of the Indigenous People that fought alongside other Canadians.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

We live in a safe environment without fear of war and we also don’t have to worry about leaving family or family leaving us.
