Jack Shanks - Why We Remember

This is the story of my great great Uncle Jack Shanks who died in WWII at the age of 20. This is the story of his life and how he is remembered.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

That the people of Holland still to this day thank Canadians for their assistance in the war. The people of Manitoba honor those who lost their lives in the war by naming a lake after them.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

That my Uncle Jack gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country and it is our duty to never forget it.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I am only 10 or half the age of my great great uncle before he died. I am thankful that he fought for me and our families.
