Souvenir Viscount Alexander

My project is about Viscount Alexander, a former Governor General of Canada whom my school is named after. I also talk about other schools in Winnipeg named after Governors General. My project was inspired by a photograph of Viscount Alexander in the hallway of my school.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

When I first started researching about my topic, I thought my school was the only one named after a Governor General. I was excited to find out that there were many more in my city.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I've learned that the things around us every day can have a story behind them. I realized that something ordinary can have an extraordinary history.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Viscount Alexander served as Governor General when Canada was still influenced by Great Britain and the Monarchy, which meant he represented the queen. Today, the role of the Governor General is more ceremonial, so it has less direct effect on me.
