Canada's History In Space

My project is all about the history of how Canada became involved with space exploration. In it, I describe historical events, Canada’s astronaut program and some of the technology that Canada has invented to study space.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I found out that the Canadarm can't lift its own weight while on Earth. This is because it was designed to work in zero gravity. To test the arm, they had to hang it from wires from the ceiling to simulate no gravity.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that astronauts have to try very hard in school as should everyone else. Also, I found out that Canada has made important contributions to the shuttle and ISS programs. I didn't realize that people were studying space so long ago and that they were interested in the stars in the night sky, just like me.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I think my life is similar to that of a young astronaut or scientist because I am curious about space, just like they would have been at my age. However, it is easier for me to find information because we now have computers and the internet where they only had books and television.
