Life Stories & Legacies: Hilda Thiessen

Our family has had a connection with Mrs. Hilda Thiessen for four generations. In my project, I talk with her and learn about our family history.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I was surprised to learn how many generations this friendship goes back. I found it interesting how different Mrs. Thiessen's childhood was from mine.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

The elders in our lives are a rich resource. They provide knowledge, support, love and cookies! Just because someone is much older than you, doesn't mean that they can't be a special friend.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Life today is much easier for children. Mrs. Thiessen had to walk two miles to school, and she had to help out at home much more than kids today.
