The History of Figure Skating in Canada

This project explores the history of figure skating in Canada.  It examines important records, such as Olympic medals won by Canadians and World titles.  It also explores the biographies of some famous skaters.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I was interested when I found out about how many records that Canadians have won. Canadians have the largest amount of Olympic medals in the Pairs category.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

The important lessons that I have learned is that these skaters never gave up. Canadians have pushed the limits of jumps, spins, and artistic expression in skating. I hope a new generation of skaters continue to push the limits even farther.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Many Canadian skaters have influenced my own skating and are my heroes. I admire Patrick Chan's skating because he is a great jumper. I also admire Kurt Browning because he was the first man to land a quad and he was very artistic. I hope one day that I can land big jumps too.
