The Evolution Of The City Of Greater Sudbury

In my project, I will take you on a journey through the evolution of the City of Greater Sudbury from 1.85 billion years ago to today.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The Regional Regreening program has helped Sudbury recover from the devastation caused by forestry clear-cutting and mining practices by planting over 15 million tree seedlings and reclaiming 3,300 hectares of land as a result. The program has made Sudbury an environmental success story.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that a massive meteorite impacted the earth 1.85 billion years ago in what is now known as the Sudbury Basin and that it was the beginning of Sudbury's history.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

In the past, railway workers lived in the small village where there was no other store but the C.P.R store, and no private shops were allowed. Whereas now there are hundreds of shops and stores in Sudbury and it is a beautiful thriving community. Our life today is amazing in the city of Greater Sudbury.
