The Halifax Explosion

My project explains the Halifax explosion and the destruction that it left the city in after that horrible day in December.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing that I learned about my project is that even though the explosion left Halifax in ruins, the residents living there were still able to rebuild Halifax to be the beautiful city that it is today. I was surprised that there was so much destruction and many obstacles but yet they worked together to restore the city.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that when catastrophes happen, it is important that the country and also neighbouring countries help one another through the tough times. This helps build friendly relationships between countries and cities.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

If we had an explosion in this century we would have all the fancy equipment like long fire hoses and fire hydrants with water ready to be used. In 1917, they relied on horses and wagons and the emergency personnel did not have all the equipment that we have today.
