The War of 1812

My project was on the War of 1812. I focused on the major battles of the war. I also focused on some important people as well.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I learned a lot interesting things about the War of 1812. My favourite things were the different battles. My favourite was the Battle of Queenston Heights. This is because the Indigenous and British soldiers stopped the Americans with a much smaller force for a long period of time.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that Canada's diversity and the way we work together has a long history. During the war, the British and the First Nations people worked together to fend off the Americans, and defend their land and ideas. For example, Tecumseh worked hand-in-hand with General Sir Isaac Brock.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I think that our lives today are much better than those in the past. This is because we are not at war. We don't have to worry about Americans raiding us or burning out towns, like the people of York did.
