Joe Ladue

In summer 1883 Joe Ladue met Frederick Schwatka and headed down river with him 350 miles to Fort Yukon and started life down there.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

Joe Ladue created Dawson City and mined a lot in the Yukon.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned a lot about Yukon history related to Fort Selkirk and the Gold Rush and my class and I have hiked the Chilkoot and floated down the Yukon River on a canoe just like stampeders did during the Gold Rush.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

We are much further advanced in technology and how to build stuff like houses and different tools.
