Jacques Cartier the French Explorer

My project is on Jacques Cartier the French explorer. In this video you will learn about Cartier's three expeditions and what he found on them.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned about my topic was that Jacques Cartier was the one who named Canada. However, it was only because he misunderstood a native world. This interesting fact makes me think about what would our country be named if Jacques Cartier had understood the native word, and who would have named our country.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

A very important lesson that I have learned from my project on Jacques Cartier is to always do the right thing even if it might be hard. When Jacques Cartier found diamonds on his third expedition it must have been hard to decide whether to stick to the plan or rush to the king and give him the gold and diamonds. Even though the gold and diamonds were fake Jacques Cartier did the right thing by showing his allegiance to the king and giving him the Gold and diamonds.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I think that my life compared to those lives I studied would be very different. For example the simplest things that I do such as putting toast in the toaster, the people who I studied would not be able to do since they did not have toasters in the 16th century. Another example would be that they would be on a ship doing their job while I would be in school learning.
