The history of Black people in Canada. How people got here from the U.S.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

i did not know that they used so many codes to get to Canada. People hung quilts with codes on them to tell slaves what to do. They called the big dipper the drinking gourd to tell people to follow the north star to get to Canada.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

How Black people helped to make Canada the way it is today. That slavery was wrong and a bad thing to do. Modern slavery and racism is still here today.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

It is a lot safer and peaceful now. There are still bad people that don't like Black people. When I was young I walked through a group of them and I didn't even know, but they didn't do anything bad to my family.
