Lacrosse

My project is about why lacrosse is important to Canada's history and why it’s our national sport.   Did you know why it’s our national sport ? It is because in 1876 Dr. William Beers was the founder of the Montreal Lacrosse  Club and then later on in the 1900s he promoted it and it played such a big role in the country and with the people it became the national sport.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

What I found to be very interesting about lacrosse is that it was an Olympic sport. And in 1908 Canada won the gold medal at the Olympics.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

One of the important lessons that I learnt is that lacrosse is our national sport. Also that the Mohawk from Brantford, Ontario, invented lacrosse in the late 1600s.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

My life is very different than the Mohawk in the late 1600s. How I live in a brick house & we have lots of different transportation: cars, bikes, scooters, skate boards, airplanes. The Mohawk lived in tepees and walked or rode a horse. We go to the store to buy food clothes supplies. The Mohawk grew, hunted and/or caught their food, and other supplies such as clothes they made.
