The History of the Acadians

My project is about the Acadians, how they lived and what they suffered through. I researched the deportation of 1758 and discovered the Britains shipped them away.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing I learned was the brilliant idea the Acadians had to change their last names. They made their last names sound more English so the British didn't think they were Acadians and therefore, they didn't deport them. It was absolutely genius. That is the reason there are still Acadians living on P.E.I.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Unfortunately terrible things like the deportation happen in our world, it is reality. We have to be like the Acadians and fight for our freedom because we deserve the same rights as everyone else. Never be afraid to stand up for yourself because you are person too.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

It is a very different life now from what it was then. They wore different clothes, ate different food and most of all they made almost everything they owned. However, today we just go to the store and buy whatever we need.
