The Somalia Affair

The Somalia Affair was the flawed peacekeeping mission that ruined our country's reputation. To this day, it remains a large, dark ominous spot on a otherwise flawless history.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

That nobody really knew about it. Even many of the adjudicators that had lived through it, didn't even know what had happened.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned that corruption and racism still exist, and can be found in any country. Also, that when greed and fame get to your head, many times it can end in disaster.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Well, our lives compared to the lives of the Canadians that went through this aren't much different, except that they had felt betrayed and disgusted, because the government had lied to them.
