Drumming is the heart beat

My video is about First Nations drumming and how it is important to so many people. I learned about songs and when and where people drum and dance.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

When I was researching the different kinds of drums, other students came to me and told me they knew how to drum and knew songs to sing with drumming. They sang in my video.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned that many cultures have many styles of drums. There are more than 40 different tribes or clans in Canada. Each drum is special or sacred to the drummer.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

The drum creates a heartbeat of Mother Earth and when people drum and sing they express themselves in many ways. People are relearning this ancient style of music for ceremonies.
