Dyea Alaska

Dyea Alaska was a small trading village near Skagway Alaska, which is the start of the Chilkoot Trail. The trail was the only overland route to the Klondike Gold Rush in 1898.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

After the White Pass Railroad was finished, Dyea was no longer needed and the town went to ruins.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Even though the rush came overland from Alaska, the gold rush is in Dawson City, Canada.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Transportation is a lot easier now - you can drive or take a train, instead of walking over a mountain with 2000 lbs of supplies.
