Piercey Heritage Home

My project is based on the Piercey Heritage Home. This was my great-grandfather’s house that he built himself. It is in Milltown, Bay D’Espoir, an outport community in Newfoundland.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I found the most interesting thing I learned was that when my Great Grandfather moved his house, he moved it on water! He actually floated the house on water!

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned that it is very interesting to learn about your family's roots. I learned a lot of interesting things about my Great Grandfather that I would not have known otherwise!

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

My life today is much different and definitely easier! Today, you would just move houses, not float your house on water! Also, it must have been hard having to go outside to use the washroom, now, we only have to walk a few steps indoors!
