The Maple Tree and its Significance to Canada

The maple tree and thus the maple leaf play an important role in Canada. The maple tree provides the world famous maple syrup and beautiful long lasting furniture. The maple leaf is recognized as the symbol of Canada all over the world.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

All the facts about making maple syrup were very interesting. Especially that there is so little maple syrup left after the sap is burned in the evaporator and that real maple syrup is made of sap only no other additives.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned that the maple leaf as a symbol of Canada has a very long history that dates back to 1810 but that it wasn't until 1965 that the flag was accepted officially.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

The people I studied in my project are all wonderful people of our community and I learned a lot from them.
