Nanna's Journey

My project is about why my Nanna came to Canada from Malta. There have been a lot of people who have moved to Canada over the years of 1963–2012. I wonder why so many people come to Canada, so I asked my Nanna why she came to Canada.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting fact that I learned about my topic was how many people there are that live in Canada and were born in a different country. I realized my Nanna was one of those people. That is why I did my project on her.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

An important thing that I have learned and want to share with other Canadians is one reason why a lot of people chose to move to Canada. That reason is people think that Canada has good economy. Most people think that Canada has more opportunities.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

My life today would be very different to my Nanna's life in 1964. Now in Malta it is easier to get a job. In Canada you could get a job in 1964 but it was harder to get one then in Malta. In Canada the schools were better then in Malta as well.
