Life and Legacies, The Biography of Robert Masson

This is the story of my grandfather, Robert J. A. Masson, during his childhood. Originally my project was a written biography, which I am now making into a small film.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

I learned that even though my grandpa was just a child back then, he still is the same person. He still loves to trap, he still works very hard and farms, and he still has a great sense of humour.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned that it is important for young Canadians to honor your elders and take the time to learn about their lives. After all, if it wasn't for their existence and the choices they made growing up, we may never have been born at all.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I learned that children nowadays are very different from the children from past generations. It seems that we worry about superficial things and we have a lot of idle time on our hands. Back in my grandpa's time they had to work much harder and simple tasks like even getting to school was labor intensive.
