I did my project on the History of Canadian girl Guides and how they impacted Canada. I learned that they helped in both world wars. They helped see clothes back together, they helped send secret messages to other soldiers. And they end made a special world war badge. I also learned that the first cookies that they sold were vanilla sandwich cookies and the chocolate sandwich cookies and mint cookies were added later. I learned that badges have been around since the very beginning of girl Guides in Canada in 1910. They earned badges for camping, first aid, science, and even space.

What sources and evidence did you consult for your project? What different perspectives did they provide on your topic?

I used the internet, personal experience, interviews, books, and local girl guide leaders and groups.

Official sources talk about what the girl Guides did as an organization and the big things that they did and how they impacted Canadian history. Personal sources talk about the impact that girl Guides have on a personal level and how they impacted their personal history.

What is the historical significance of your topic?

The historical significance of girl Guides is that they helped in both world wars. The short term effects were the soldiers that were effected by the Guides because the Guides were helping with first aid, sewing, knitting and badge making. They helped send messages to other soldiers and helped a lot with Red Cross.

The long term effects were things like the cookies changing from just vanilla to vanilla and chocolate, to chocolate mint. They have also changed badges, course work, and even the name Brownies to Embers so that they would be more inclusive and inviting to all girls. Today Girl Guides continue to help their fellow Canadians and local communities.

Why did you choose this topic?

I chose this topic because my grandmother, my mother, my aunt, my cousins, my sister and myself and all been and continue to be a part of Girl Guides in Canada.
