Congratulations to Valentina and Jacobi, the 2020 winners of the Kayak Kids’ Illustrated History Challenge. While Valentina created a graphic novel-style and Jacobi juxtaposed archival images with a prose tale, both winners used immense creativity to highlight impactful Canadian histories.

Nanaimo, BC

The Soul of a Boat

Through brilliantly painted graphic novel-style panels, Valentina depicts a story of immigration from the perspective of a boat coming to Canada.

Jacobi R.
