The National Film Board of Canada has put together a number of resources for educators who wish to use their films in the classroom. Their Learning Resources Catalogue provides a list of classroom-friendly films for teachers, while their downloadable study guides provide historic background, suggested reading and activities for students. Schools and teachers can purchase a subscription, which provides them with the required Public Performance Rights to show the films in the classroom, although several provinces (Ontario, New Brunswick, Quebec, British Columbia and Yukon) have already subscribed their schools to this service. The films range from shorts to full length features and are a great complement to traditional historical sources. The National Film Board of Canada website has a number of blogs organized by category — including one for educators — that provide additional context for their films and filmmaking.
