For centuries, musicians and artists have shared their perspectives on people, places, and events. In so doing, they have helped to shape Canada’s identity.
In this lesson, students will explore the concepts of cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. Students will research contemporary Indigenous people or groups to understand the way they are revitalizing and sharing aspects of their cultures as part of the process of reconciliation.
In this lesson, students will learn about Cree Code Talkers in the Second World War. They will be asked to research Code Talkers and Tom Longboat and prepare written responses comparing the two histories.
Starting in January 2015, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights will offer 90-minute tours to teach visitors about Indigenous symbolism in the museum’s architecture.
