Pirates of the Atlantic

Pirates are most often associated with the Caribbean. But the East Coast of Canada had its fair share of bloodthirsty swashbucklers too.

Dan Conlin, the curator of marine history at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic in Halifax, wrote the book on this topic called Pirates of the Atlantic.

He also created a popular exhibit on pirates for the museum.

In a podcast with Canada’s History associate editor Nelle Oosterom, Conlin talks about the pirates who swarmed the waters of Atlantic Canada. (Duration: Ten minutes, seven seconds)

For more on Canada’s pirates, read the August/September issue of Canada’s History.
