To help strengthen both literacy skills and Canadian historical knowledge, the Illustrated History Challenge encourages Canadian kids between the ages of 7-14 to create their own original illustrated story based on any element of Canada’s past that is of interest to them. A program of Historica Canada, Aboriginal Arts & Stories encourages Aboriginal youth between the ages of 11-29 to explore an aspect of their heritage and culture through literary and visual arts. The four recipients presented today are the winners from the 14-18 and 19-29 age categories for both writing and visual arts. Learn more
The Government of Canada History Awards were officially announced in June 2013. Their goal is to connect youth to their history by honouring outstanding students and teachers who show an interest in celebrating Canadian history. Learn more
The Experiences Canada Award (formerly the SEVEC Ambassador of History Award) is granted each year to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to youth discovery of the rich diversity of Canada’s history, heritage and culture through Experiences Canada’s Youth Exchanges Canada program.
