Project: The S.S. Caribou Disaster

The S.S.Caribou was shot by a torpedo during the second world war. 137 people died while 101 were rescued.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

There were 11 children on board of the ship. The youngest was about 2 years. The child was rescued and lost couple of times before he was finally rescued.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

It is inhuman to shoot at civilians even during the war time. People should be helping each other at all times. Rescuers should be faster in arriving to the scene.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Now technology is improved. It is easier to find enemy ships and submarine nearby and avoid them. It is easier also to rescue passengers.
