Black History Canada

This portal offers teachers a comprehensive selection of content and resources relating to Black history in Canada. The material is organized into different topics, ranging from enslavement to arts and culture and covering a variety of historical problems, achievements, events and people along the way. Suggested external links point teachers in the right direction for a more in-depth investigation of certain topics.

Black History Canada also includes a 12 page education guide for high-school teachers, drawing from Lawrence Hill’s award-winning novel The Book of Negroes, which includes historical background and suggested discussion questions for the classroom.
